Welcome to the Discipleship Minute. I’m Maurice Smith. Much of what passes for discipleship in today’s church resembles the training of worker bees for church programs more than it resembles the discipleship of Jesus. You see, Jesus wasn’t interested in raising up worker bees for a religious program, not even a “missions” program. His goal was to establish the Kingdom of God in the hearts, minds, and lives of a handful of men who would eventually teach others. They were His plan. The Kingdom of God was His program. And He chose the method best suited to achieving that goal. That’s how Jesus made disciples, and it’s how we need to make disciples, too. To learn more about how Jesus made disciples, get our book, And They Dreamt Of A Kingdom: Biblical Studies In Discipleship And The Kingdom of God. You’ll find it on our website at risingrivermedia.org; that’s risingrivermedia.org.
